Valley Oaks Charter School is located at 3401 Chester Avenue, south of the Kern County Museum and north of Garces Circle. It is centrally located and has regular GET bus service.
Valley Oaks Charter School is fully accredited by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Upcoming Learning Trips
Learning Trip Procedure:
1. Sign up for your selected learning trip at the front desk. Learning trips can be found on our website, our newsletter, or on the "Learning Trips" bulletin board at the front of the Chester Avenue location.
2. Pay for the cost of the learning trip.
3. You will receive a note card and an activity packet. This note card is your ticket to the learning trip. Please make sure it is filled out and given to the teacher. You can view and print out your own copy of the learning trip note card by clicking here.
4. On the day of the learning trip come with the note card filled out and sign in with the teacher. Transportation to the learning trip is not provided by Valley Oaks.
5. Start learning and have fun!
To make our learning trips the best they can be and to accommodate students on the waiting list, we ask that you notify the office if you are unable to attend. After two “no-shows” without prior notification, your school related learning trip privileges will be revoked for the remainder of the year.

January 23rd - Channel Islands Marine Floating Lab
Come and
join us for a fun-filled day at the Fisherman’s Wharf in Oxnard. We
will be exploring the fascinating world of marine biology on the
Channel Islands Marine floating Lab.
February 6th - Ski Trip
Mark
your calendars! The Valley Oaks Ski Trip will take place on Friday,
February 6, 2009. Tune up your skis and mark your calendar for a fun-
filled day on the slopes. Contact Tom Shelton for more information.
February 10th - Harlem Renaissance Exhibit
The Bakersfield Art Museum presents
a learning trip entitled “Harlem Renaissance: Legacy and Beyond”, an
exhibit of African-American art from the 1920 - 1930’s. Exhibit will
take place from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Sign up at the front desk. This
learning trip is for 4th - 8th graders. There is no cost for this
learning trip.
February 17th - Fresno Metropolitan Museum of Art & Science
Join us on a train trip to the
Fresno Metropolitan Museum. We will walk about 30 - 35 minutes from the
train station to the Met where we can take a snack break and briefly
play in the grass court yard. At 11:00 a.m. we will learn about the
Feathered Dinosaurs and Origin of Flight and participate in Crossroads
II: The Meeting of Art and Science. Using our ATSC cards and photo IDs,
we will have an hour to tour the museum on out own. The train leaves at
7:15 a.m. so be at the station by 7:00 a.m. The cost is $7.50, and is
for grades K - 6, remember to bring a snack and a sack lunch.
February 19th - Omnipresent Puppet Theatre
The award winning puppeteers of
Omnipresent Puppet Theatre continue at the Empty Space Theatre with the
original Tale of Two Sisters: An African Cinderella Story. This is a
great show for families and anyone with a sense of humor and love for
the whimsical. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. The Empty Space Theatre is
located at 706 Oak Street. Admission is only $4.00, recommended for
ages 5 & up.
February 23rd - Discover Science Center
Plan to visit the Discover Science
Center @ 2500 North Main Street, Santa Ana, CA, where grades K - 12 may
explore more than 100 hands-on exhibits like Magic School Bus Kicks Up
A Storm, Dynamic Earth, Quake Zone, Air & Space, Digital Lab &
Space Shuttle. Open 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., free with ASTC card and
photo ID (plus $3.00 parking), and $2.00 per person if you choose to
attend the 4-D Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia Theater.
