HELLO THIRD GRADERS!

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year. This year we are focusing on writing. You will be provided supplemental curriculum, 6 - Trait Writing, to enhance your Language Arts program. You will find it listed on the grid as "D6W". Additionally, Houghton Mifflin has new Practice Books this year. The cover has changed, however the stories are the same. Writing skills have been added and we strongly encourage you to complete these valuable activities. Not all Teacher Edition's have been received, consequently the third grade grid starting in February 2010 has blank sections where the writing page numbers should be. As soon as the information becomes available we will pass it along to our families. Thank you in advance for your patience.

Third grade students at Valley Oaks will be expected to complete a Personal Development project encompassing Kern County. Students may research issues relating to Kern County including our vast agriculture and oil industries, county government, and the impact of the Yokuts Indians in the San Joaquin Valley.

We encourage families to participate in the wide range of field trips offered here at Valley Oaks. Please check The Acorn regularly for field trips to you can assure your spot.
