Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year. This year we are focusing on writing. You will be provided supplemental curriculum called Daily 6 - Trait Writing to enhance your Language Arts program. You will find it listed on the grid as "D6W" and the Teachers Edition listed as "D6W TE." Three standards for writing this year include descriptive writing, narrative writing, and personal and formal letter writing.

Talk to your Resource Teacher about how to prepare for State Testing in the spring. This year Perfection Learning will be available for you and your child to use.

Changes have been made to the third grade grid to make it more "user friendly." Please visit the Valley Oaks website often for beneficial links to supplemental academic areas as well as current and upcoming events. This year three field trips relating to the third grade curriculum have been planned. There will be a field trip to the Bakersfield College Planetarium, a Native America Tour at the Kern County Museum, and a trip to the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History here in Bakersfield. We strongly encourage you to visit the field trip board in the front office or the link on the website to stay informed on available field trips.

Don't forget to sign your child up for Enrichment this year. Third grade students will be part of the 2/3 Block and will take classes ranging from PE to Cool Crafts to Infinite and Beyond just to name a few. Don't miss out on the learning and the fun!
