Taft

Taft Location: Welcome to the Valley Oaks Taft web page! We are a satellite office that serves Valley Oaks Charter School families living in the Taft, Maricopa, Cuyama, and other outlying areas in that region of the county. The office is located within the First Baptist Church, 220 North Street, Taft. There is one resource teacher (Beverly Wetterholm) and an aide (Tami Salazar) with office hours 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Mondays - Fridays each week. We are available for appointments and some tutoring if needed.

Our office facility allows us to have enrichment classes and other gatherings. We have access to a gym, kitchen, and many classrooms. We have enrichment classes the same weeks as those of the Bakersfield site, except they are on Thursdays. The enrichment classes are usually broken up in two levels: upper & lower elementary. They are taught by Mrs. Wetterholm, Mrs. Salazar, and Taft parents. We have a wonderful group of about 20 students. We choose enrichment classes based on the needs/desires of our students. Some of our classes include: drama, acting, art, crafts, kitchen science, music, student leadership, and others. We have activities in addition to the enrichment classes such as: family picnics, holiday parties, our own field trips, and educational classes. We offer state testing in the spring at our site.

Any questions? Phone Beverly Wetterholm at 747-9818.

Taft Students:
Tales From Taft

Happy New Year from everyone to Taft! We wrapped up enrichment classes with our grade K - 3rd students having a wonderful time of learning holiday traditions with resource teacher Bev Wetterholm. Mrs. Salazar continued with Spanish classes as well as learning the mechanics of how to compile a research essay for the 4-8 grade students. A big “Thank You” to parent Mrs. Wikoff for conducting a choir class for all grades for the last two enrichment periods. She did a great job preparing and leading Taft students in a winter performance of an "All American Christmas" in which students sang and recited the history of Christmas to music. Ckira Wikoff, Phillip Taylor, and Michaela Bryant performed a beautiful song and Julianna Taylor and Emily Salazar sang a duet. It was a wonderful evening filled with music, family and the Christmas Spirit.

Congratulations to Clayton Wikoff; his All-Star soccer team from Taft won the championship for all of Kern County on December 6, 2008. He will be moving on to regionals in February!

Enrichment classes will begin on January 13th. See Mrs. Wetterholm for more details about classes.
