Valley Oaks Charter School is located at 3401 Chester Avenue, south of the Kern County Museum and north of Garces Circle. It is centrally located and has regular GET bus service.
Valley Oaks Charter School is fully accredited by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Living History Camp


HISTORY CAMP IS JUST AROUND THE BEND
Learn about life without modern electricity or other modern comforts, then demonstrate what you learned on Living History Day. Students may only attend one session.
Session 1:
October 11-14, 2nd-8th grades: 8:40 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Monday - Thursday at VOCS Warehouse 3501 Chester Avenue. This session has a $25 fee which will cover all activities and projects as well as lunch on the last day.
Session 2:
March 28-31, 2nd -8th grades: 8:40 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Monday-Thursday at VOCS Warehouse 3501 Chester Avenue. This session has a $25 fee which will cover all activities and projects as well as lunch on the last day.
Session 3:
April 4-6, K-1st grades: 8:40 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. This session has a $20 fee which will cover all activities and projects as well as lunch on the last day.
Valley Oaks will be offering two 4-day history camps, October 11-14, and March 28-31. On days 1-3 your child will learn different pioneer activities and games. On day 4 they will all be a part of the Living History Day presentation for the visitors to the Kern County Museum. There is a $25 fee for the camp and it will run from 8:40 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
The new K-1 camp will have two days of hands-on pioneer activities and the third day be a demonstration day for visitors. There is a $20 fee for the camp and it will run from 8:40 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
Learn crafts and skills such as:
Leather working, pioneer activities, one-room schoolhouse experience, embroidery, branding, pioneer toys and music, pinch pots, oil paper windows, western justice, rope making, cooking, candle making, and much more!
Online sign-ups begin at 10:00 a.m. March 14th, for session 2 and the K-1 Camp. Space is limited. Students may only sign up for one session or the other. The $25/$20 per student fee offsets some of the cost for materials and includes lunch on Living History Day.
