January 2012 News and Views from Frazier Park VOCS:
• Help—Math difficulties? The math tutorial this year is individualized. Please call Mr. Adams or Mr. Kennedy at the office (661-245-3537).
• The Constitution Class for eighth grade will continue on Thursdays from 9:30-11:00 AM and be held at the school through the end of January (except for snow days).
Our Frazier Park “small” office is being changed to our new “computer lab,” and the old “library” has become a great multipurpose room for special occasions--like our recent Christmas party—for classes, for meetings, and more (come see it if you haven’t).
We encourage parents to take advantage of our writing classes for enrichment (see below), especially those with students in fourth and seventh grades, as they will be tested in March of this year.
Frazier Park VOCS will again have all testing done in the Frazier Park office. All state test dates are posted on the school calendar. Parents (second through eighth grades) will soon receive the Language Arts and Math test-prep booklets (and the science ones for 5th and 8th grades).
Writing Enrichment Classes at the Frazier Park office will begin in January (dates to be announced) with Mr. Adams and Mr. Kennedy teaching a two-part series on writing strategies (grades 4th through 8th). Fourth through sixth grades are focusing on proficiency writing and creative short stories. Seventh and eighth grades are covering mini lessons on basic writing (focusing on models of good writing), how to write an essay, and group creative writing. Classes will on Thursdays (schedules to be announced).
“Critical Thinking Skills” is the theme of Mrs. Perone’s K-5 enrichment. Classes will be on Thursdays. (Check with Ms. Perone for the times). Two more classes on multiplication will also be scheduled on Thursdays in January.
Again, we are looking forward to a good educational 2nd semester, and we wish everyone Happy New Year!
