Field Trip Policy

Art Museum Field Trip: Field trips should be an important part of the education of each child. Parents should investigate the community resources and arrange experiences for their children that support the learning. When traveling, learning experiences should be incorporated into the trip – reading maps, figuring gas mileage, visiting historical landmarks and museums, etc.

School sponsored field trips will be scheduled each month. In most cases, field trips will have pre and post trip educational materials for parents to integrate learning with the trips. Parents need to accompany their children on the field trips not only for supervision but for knowing how to review and reinforce the learning at home. The following guidelines will help to make your field trips a positive learning experience:

·          Check out the field trip possibilities in the newsletter, website and/or at the Parent Place.Hearst Castle Field Trip:

·          Sign up for the trips that can be used in your learning plan. Write down the time, etc. in your assignment booklet.

·          Pay the required $2 deposit per child and per parent when you sign up.

·          Pick up a field trip card and any educational materials pertaining to that trip.

·          Before coming to the field trip, review any educational materials that were given out. Do some additional research on your own if possible.

·          Have each child fill out the first half of the card, asking 3 good questions that he/she wants to have answered on the trip.

·          On the day of the field trip, come with the note card filled out. Your $2 deposit will be refunded, unless otherwise stated in field trip information.

·          If a student comes to the field trip without signing up (and assuming that there is space available), a $2 charge will apply for both student and parent and will not be refunded. The student will be given a note card to fill out before proceeding on the field trip.

Supervising teachers may assign a required follow-up activity to be turned in to your Resource Teacher.

You must sign-up in person at the front desk of the 3501 Chester Avenue site and you must pay in cash at the time of the sign up. Transportation is not provided by Valley Oaks Chater School, transportation must be provided by the parent/guardian. Field trip sign-ups are on a "First come, first serve" basis.
