&lt;P&gt;&lt;BR&gt;ENGLISH 10&lt;BR&gt;SYLLABUS&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Textbooks:&amp;nbsp; Globe Fearon Literature Green Level&lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Julius Caesar&amp;nbsp; William Shakespeare&lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Red Scarf Girl Ji Li Jiang&lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Cry the Beloved Country Alan Paton&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Course Description:&amp;nbsp; The course will be a survey of world literature focusing on poetry, short stories, novels, and works of nonfiction.&amp;nbsp; The student will also study vocabulary with an emphasis on Greek and Latin roots, grammar, and writing skills.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Assessment:&amp;nbsp; The student will be assessed through portfolios, in class assignments, quizzes, exams, and writing samples.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Grading:&amp;nbsp; Letter grades will be computed using the school&#146;s adopted formula:&lt;BR&gt;A = 93-100%&lt;BR&gt;A- = 90-92&lt;BR&gt;B+ = 87-89&amp;nbsp;&lt;BR&gt;B = 83-86&lt;BR&gt;B- = 80-82&lt;BR&gt;C+ = 77-79&lt;BR&gt;C = 73-76&lt;BR&gt;C- = 70-72&lt;BR&gt;D+ = 67-69&lt;BR&gt;D = 63-66&lt;BR&gt;D- = 60-62&lt;BR&gt;F = Less than 60% of points possible.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Late Work:&amp;nbsp; Late assignments will be accepted for two weeks after the due date, and only with an excused absence.&amp;nbsp; The students must call or email the teacher to set an appointment to make up any missed quizzes or tests within two weeks following the absence (Tuesday students).&amp;nbsp; I do not offer extra credit in my classes.&amp;nbsp; Please take the opportunity to complete assigned work in the assigned time period.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Expectations:&lt;BR&gt;Student -&amp;nbsp; The student will be on time with assigned work completed.&lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; The student will maintain a portfolio for each unit.&lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; The student will come prepared to class with textbook and&amp;nbsp;notebook.&lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; The student will follow the weekly assignment sequence to be &lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Prepared for class.&amp;nbsp; In the case of an absence, the student should &lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Refer to the portfolio cover sheet to keep up with work.&lt;BR&gt;Parent -&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; The parent will oversee the student&#146;s work on a daily basis.&lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; The parent will grade portfolios and assign points appropriately.&lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; The parent will assist students with writing assignments and be &lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Available for oral presentation practice.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Portfolio requirements:&lt;BR&gt;&amp;nbsp;Students are expected to have a one inch 3-ring binder for their portfolios.&amp;nbsp; There should be tabs to divide the work into sections.&amp;nbsp; Each unit/portfolio will be 4-6 weeks long.&amp;nbsp; At the end of the unit, students will take work out of the binder, put it in a folder (with brads), and turn it in.&amp;nbsp; Portfolios will be returned the following week.&amp;nbsp; Parents should assign points based on completeness of the portfolio and sign.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&lt;BR&gt;Our program is different in that we only meet once a week.&amp;nbsp; If you have chosen to participate in the Tuesday program, it is crucial that you attend classes on Tuesday.&amp;nbsp; Please be prepared by eating breakfast, being well rested, and having all your materials.&amp;nbsp; If you miss a Tuesday, it is your responsibility to get in touch with all instructors to keep up with work and make appointments for any missed class work.&lt;BR&gt;&lt;/P&gt;</description>
